What Is God Thinking?
By Marsha Jordan What can you say to a parent who loses a child to cancer? Whatever words we offer are inadequate to lessen their sorrow. We have no answers to questions like, "Why this child?" or "Why now?" and "What do I do now?" Another question we all ask and cannot answer is, "Where was God and what was He thinking when this horrible thing happened? " For answers, I look to God's written word. It gives me a glimpse into His personality and thoughts. If God were to telephone and speak to you during times of suffering, perhaps these are some things He might say: "I know how you feel." God understands the loss of a child because He experienced it. He said to Jesus, "You are my son whom I love." (Mark 1:11) He watched men torture his beloved son. He felt the grief of seeing the people He'd created rebell against Him. "His spirit was grieved." (Isaiah 63:10) The Bible says Jesus was "a man of sorrows and familiar with suffering . . . He carried our sorrows." (Isaiah 53:3) Crucifixion was the most barbaric form of death known to man. It was a cruel, drawn out process. Nails were driven into wrists and ankles. The body was suspended in an abnormal position that crushed the lungs and heart. The pain was excruciating. For this torture, Jesus left the glory of heaven. He left the companionship of angels and the fellowship of His Father for this brutal treatment. He understands suffering like no other can. In the midst of your struggles, God would say, "I love you." "I have loved you with an everlasting love." (Jeremiah 31:3) He demonstrated His great love with the ultimate sacrifice. "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son." (John 3:16) He would say, "You're not alone. I am with you.." Deuteronomy 31:6 tells us, "The Lord your God goes with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you." Isaiah 43:2 reads, "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." And Jesus said in Matthew 28:20, "I am with you always." He would say, "I want to bless you." "He did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all. Will He not also graciously give us all things?" (Romans 8:32) Anyone who would give so great a gift at such a great cost must certainly have only our best interest at heart. God would assure you that, "Nothing bad in this world can separate us." "Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor demons . . . nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God." (Romans 8:35-39) God would tell you, "Pain is part of life." "In this world, you will have trouble." (John 16:33a) But He would also say, "Take heart." The next part of that verse says, "But be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." He would tell you, "Lean on me." "Come to me you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) He would say, "Trust me." "My peace I give to you . . . Do not be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:28) He would promise, "I can make you strong." "My strength is made perfect in (your) weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9) He would say, "I can bring good, even from tragedy.." "In all things, God works for the good of those who love Him." (Romans 8:28) He would say, "Ultimately, nothing not even death can hurt you, if you belong to me; because, through my son, you have the hope of eternal life." "Death where is your victory . . . Where is your sting? Death has been swallowed up in victory." (1 Corinthians 15:55) Even with the King of Kings leading us through life, it will be difficult; but we can endure, and even overcome, any struggle. He can strengthen us with the knowledge that no matter what happens in this lifetime, nothing here can steal our hope of the eternal treasure He wants to give us. He's created an everlasting kingdom where pain, suffering, tears and death will no longer exist; and He offers that home to all who will come. Life may be filled with sorrow, but it won't be as hopeless with Jesus as it would be without Him. When we're suffering, only God can provide the perfect peace for which our hearts long. God's love carries us through anything and overcomes any situation, burden, or grief -- no matter how great. The heart of Christianity revolves around a tragic and unjust death. The best man who ever lived -- an innocent man -- had to suffer, so how can we expect lives free from pain and sorrow? Yet, God brought life and good out of the tragedy of Jesus' death. He can do the same with our suffering too, if through that suffering we grow closer to Him. Design An Entrance Garden
By R Birch Foundation plantings have traditionally been intended to screen cement foundations of houses. This is a bit short sighted, however. Creating a welcoming entrance garden is a more appropriate way go about designing these spaces. Entrance gardens are important as theyre able to integrate houses and gardens with the surrounding landscape. Entrance gardens should be welcoming and open. They can draw attention to architectural details or screen architectural flaws. When deciding what to use in the garden, try to avoid planting rapidly growing plants which can quickly become obtrusive, outgrow their allotted space, block views and obstruct access. Entrance garden are usually the front garden at most homes and can benefit from plants which have year-round interest, such as evergreens or deciduous shrubs with colorful autumn foliage or berries in the winter. Specimen shrubs, such as a interesting flowering deciduous shrub or a dwarf evergreen, work exceptionally well in an entrance garden. Weight Loss Made Easy
By Jim O'Connor Weight loss doesn't need to be this complicated! There are low fat, low carb, low calorie, and even
liquid diets. There are dozens of pills and plans promising the
world with quick weight loss. I am sure, while you're reading this article, someone is dreaming up another "quick fix" solution to the ever growing obesity epidemic. I would like to tell you an eye opening weight loss related story about Jill, a person I consulted with. Jill, a 35 year old single women in Los Angeles, had a first date last Saturday night with whom she called "Mr. Perfect."
Because the dinner date was at 8:00 pm, she told her girlfriends
she needed to start getting ready at 6:00 pm. Jill wanted to look the best she could, therefore, her outfit and accessories were planned days in advance. She picked out a dress she wore only once, last year, which generated rave reviews. As Jill anxiously dressed for her big night with "Mr.
Perfect," she shockingly couldn't squeeze into her tight dress.
Instant panic! It didn't fit, and her night was ruined. She
felt fat, unattractive, and downright disgusted with herself.
Jill told me she wanted to cancel the date and hide.
Does any of this sound familiar? I am sharing this story with you because this is exactly how the weight loss, diet roller coaster can begin. After feeling horrible about herself, a distraught Jill frantically began searching for the quickest weight loss solution possible. Jill said "whatever it takes, I need this off now!" The next day Jill was bombarded with dozens of different
complicated, and confusing solutions. Pills, exercise, low carb,
liquid, South Beach, Beverly Hills, and the Grapefruit Diet.
She called me, in an extremely emotional state, to ask which diet was best. After carefully explaining that weight loss can be very easy
as long as she stepped back and understood and followed a basic, rational system I began to share with her. It is time to stop making weight loss so complicated! It can be
extremely easy if you understand and follow the simple system
I shared with Jill. The system, I am referring to, has been outlined below for your benefit also. 1. Determine your maintenance calories by writing down every
thing you eat for 7 days. This includes even the little piece of cheese or chocolate, or the sugar and cream you might have put into your coffee. Make sure you don't alter your diet in any way throughout these 7 days. This is considered your typical 7 day diet recall. 2. Use a calorie counting book and account for each and every calorie you took in. Figure out the calorie content at the end of each day. 3. Add up the calories for all 7 days to get the grand total. 4. Take the grand total and divide by 7. This will
equal your daily maintenance calories - the amount
of calories required to maintain your present bodyweight.
(You have to assume you neither gained nor lost weight while
recording these numbers.) This method will take into account
individual metabolism, and physical activity levels. 5. To lose 1 pound of fat per week, you must find a way to
decrease your caloric intake by 500 calories per day for
seven straight days. Consistency does count. If you wish
to increase your physical activity by 250 more calories per
day, all you need to do is cut 250 calories each day from your
maintenance number identified above. Take a close look at your 7 day recall, and determine which foods you can either cut down on, or eliminate. Look at portion size, high fat foods, sugar based beverages, and desserts. Once again, there must be consistent, day after day, effort in order to lose weight. There are no quick, secret magic pills. Follow these simple steps, and you will lose body fat when
ever you want. There will never be a need again for the
"quick fix" flavor of the month diet. Therefore, if you understand this simple principle, you will never be confused about what works and what doesn't , resulting in complete control over your weight.

History Behind the Bar Mitzvah Party

These are a set of rules used in Judeo-Christian religions to help lead an appropriate, morally responsible life. The Bar Mitzvah celebration appears to have started in an early form long before Judaism existed as a way for boys to officially come of age. These very early coming of age ceremonies probably consisted of physical tests of manhood, but as Judaism developed these tests changed over to spiritual ones. Now a boy usually must memorize and read aloud a passage of the Torah in Hebrew in front of his friends, family and other members of the synagogue where he is having his Bar Mitzvah celebration. However in earlier times the boy would simply go to his Rabbi on his thirteenth birthday to be blessed, and to pray with him. After that date it was expected that the boy now turned man would follow the Ten Commandments. Now we have a great party as well as the religious ceremony. Usually the party is held on the nearest Sabbath or Saturday to the boys thirteenth birthday. There will be lots of food at a kind of reception after the ceremony. With a little mirrored paper board (available at a craft store), plastic wrap and cake sprinkles you can make a miniature kaleidoscope. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the film cannister. Fold the mirrored paper board into a triangle shape that will fit inside the cannister, and tape it inside. Place several cake sprinkles in the lid of the cannister and cover with a piece of plastic wrap, taped into place. Pop the cap back onto the cannister. When you look through the hole at the bottom of the cannister and turn the film cannister in your hand, the sprinkles will create shapes against the mirrored kaleidoscope. How is that for unique arts and crafts ideas! Arts and crafts ideas can come from anywhere. You can recycle your empty jelly jars and make beach scenes in a jar, a time capsule, or a candle holder. Once there, she can look around and if she sees something she likes you might want to think about getting it for her at some future time. Of course, if you really want to impress your lady, skip the traditional gift all together and head right for the modern idea which just happens to be fur. That's right guys. Here is where you get the chance to buy your wife her first fur coat. But take my advice. Don't try to surprise her with this. Take her down to be fitted and let her pick out the fur that she wants. Way too much can go wrong with picking out a fur coat that is just beyond the scope of this article. Old furs can be too dry and they can come apart easily. In addition, if the coat doesn't fit just right, especially if it is too tight, the seams can come apart. I pay special attention to the business sections of various media and look for trends, and opportunities within the articles that are printed there. I have made a commitment to stay abreast of business news and can tell you that this has been a key strategy for my marketing efforts over the years. You may say to me, So What? Signs of Oxycodone Addiction If a person's use of oxycodone is radically different from their prescription or doctor's recommendations, or is taken without a prescription, they may be addicted to the drug. Oxycodone abuse can be seen in those who have developed a dependence on the drug and will continue to take it despite negative consequences. Their bodies go through withdrawal when the intake of the drug is ceased. Withdrawal symptoms are quite obvious and include anxiety, diarrhea, nausea, muscle cramping, especially in the legs, and restlessness. How To Test For Oxycodone Abuse There are many different types of drug tests available that detect oxycodone. When searching for one, look for those that test for opiate abuse. By Jessica Dawn What Influences the Number of Calories You Burn Per Day? Understanding your metabolism is an essential part of losing weight, controlling your weight, and being healthy for life. In the following paragraphs, it's my goal to teach you about the different factors that influence your metabolic rate. First, let's review the definition of metabolism. American Heritage Dictionary - me·tab·o·lism (mĭ-tāb'ə-lĭz'əm) n. 1. The chemical processes occurring within a living cell or organism that are necessary for the maintenance of life. In metabolism some substances are broken down to yield energy for vital processes while other substances, necessary for life, are synthesized. The definition basically tells us that our cells require energy to carry out the basic functions of life. The rate that we use energy to carry out these basic functions is called the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR is the total energy (calories) required to do things like digest food, breathe, circulate blood, replicate, and all the other normal functions the body performs to sustain itself. BMR varies from person to person and generally accounts for the largest amount of our daily calorie requirements. Although BMR is a large factor in your daily caloric needs, there are also a number of important factors that determine how many calories you require each day. Physical activity, lean body mass (LBM), body weight, age, and gender are each factors that contribute to your metabolism (daily energy needs). In the short explanation below, I'll review the general factors that contribute to the caloric needs of individuals. Physical Activity Level Your physical activity level will obviously play an important role in burning calories everyday. The more active you are, the more calories you burn. Being active does not necessarily mean "working out". You can also include walking, housework, yard work, playing with children and other activities in the category of physical activity. (Of course working out doesn't hurt!) Body Weight The more you weigh, the more calories it takes to move your body. Lean Body Mass (LBM) Your body weight can be separated into two basic categories: LBM and fat. LBM is the mass of the body minus the mass of fat (storage energy or calories). The lean component of your body mass is comprised of organ, bone, muscles, and other similar tissues. This is one of the most important things to understand when it comes to losing weight and living lean. If you focus on the building and maintaining of lean muscle, you'll increase your BMR (daily caloric need. The more muscle tissue you have the more calories you'll burn even if your just sitting around doing nothing. For example, if person A weighs 140 lbs and has 15% body fat they'll burn more calories sitting on the couch watching TV than person B who weights 140 lbs with 25% body fat. (does that make sense?) That's why I think muscle tissue is so awesome. First, it requires more calories than fat to sustain it (which means the more you have the more you can eat without getting fat!). But not only that, muscle tissue also has another awesome property that I love. Although muscle weighs more than fat, it takes up less space than fat. So if you are concerned about your "size", you can be reassured that increasing LBM will not make you "big". Gaining one pound of muscle takes up far less space than if you gain on pound of fat. By focusing on building lean muscle, you'll not only burn more calories (and hopefully more fat). You'll also be getting smaller in size because you'll be burning fat which takes up more space (and makes you look bigger). Age Metabolism generally decreases with age. That means that as each year goes by we generally require fewer calories than the year before. I feel it's because the average person loses LBM every year due to age related issues and sedentary lifestyle. You can slow or reverse the metabolic effects of aging by building LBM with weight training and proper nutrition. Gender Men normally require more calories than women on a daily basis. This is because the average man has more LBM than the average woman. Understanding the various components that contribute to your caloric needs can help you to reach your health & fitness goals.
